It is so lovely to

meet you!

Hello Mama, I’m Mon - the heart behind Golden Hour Doula & Photography.

I’m a wife, a mother of five, a birth lover, and a big softie at heart. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 10 years, and together we have built a beautiful (and often wonderfully chaotic) life raising our five children, aged 3 to 11.

My journey into motherhood began at 18 when I became a young mum myself. That experience shaped me deeply and gave me a unique understanding of how much women need to feel supported, encouraged and surrounded by people who believe in them as they step into motherhood.

Over the years, I have experienced many different paths into motherhood myself. I have birthed with a variety of care providers and settings — including an obstetric hospital birth, a Midwifery Group Practice hospital birth, a CMP homebirth, a private midwife homebirth, and a planned homebirth that unexpectedly became a hospital birth. Each experience taught me something different about birth, support, choice and the importance of feeling safe and respected.

I grew up in Geraldton, where the ocean was always close by, and now call Yangebup home. The beach has always been my happy place — especially Coogee Beach — and you’ll often find me there soaking up the sunshine, watching my kids play, and finding a little moment of calm amongst the beautiful chaos of life.

I’m a Christian, and my faith is an important part of who I am. However, I believe every family deserves to be met with love, respect and acceptance. I am honoured to support women from all backgrounds, cultures, religions and belief systems, creating a space where you feel safe to be fully yourself.

I have ADHD, which means I’m energetic, passionate and love connecting deeply with people. I’m the person who will sit with you, listen to your story, celebrate your wins, and remind you of your strength when you need it most.

Life is busy, messy, beautiful and full — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My heart is to walk alongside mothers through one of the most transformative seasons of their lives, ensuring they feel seen, supported and held with love.

How It All Began

My love for birth, motherhood and storytelling has been growing for many years.

My passion for photography began in high school, where I discovered the joy of capturing moments and telling stories through images. What started as a hobby became something I continued to nurture over the years — taking photos of my family, editing images and finding beauty in the little moments of everyday life.

Becoming a mother at 18 opened my eyes to the beauty, strength and vulnerability of the journey into motherhood. Growing up with a mother who was a birth worker, I was surrounded by a love and appreciation for pregnancy, birth and babies, and my own experiences through different birth journeys only deepened that passion. More recently listening to many birth stories from my friends and women I'd meet, there was a constant theme of not feeling supported, educated to make informed choices, and not being advocated for in birth. This, plus a true love and admiration for birth, is what drew me to become what those women needed and fill that gap.

When I had a birth photographer for the arrival of my third baby, I experienced firsthand the incredible gift of having those fleeting moments preserved. The emotions, the connection, the tiny details and the love surrounding my baby’s arrival were captured in a way that I could return to again and again. Those images became treasured memories of a moment that passed so quickly.

I also cherish looking back through photos of my children as newborns — remembering their tiny hands, sleepy cuddles and the early days that felt like they disappeared in an instant. Those memories reminded me how valuable it is to preserve these seasons of life.

Golden Hour was created from a love of both supporting mothers and preserving their stories. Whether I am walking alongside you through your birth journey or capturing the moments your family will treasure for years to come, my heart is to ensure you feel held with love and your memories are captured for a lifetime.

My Approach To Doula Support

My approach to doula support is centred around connection, trust and creating a space where you feel truly cared for.

I want every mother I support to feel seen, heard, respected and valued. My hope is that you feel like you have someone beside you who believes in you, listens to your wishes and reminds you of your strength throughout your journey into motherhood.

I believe birth is deeply personal, and there is no single “right” way to birth. Whether you are planning a homebirth, hospital birth, medicated birth, unmedicated birth, induction or caesarean, my role is to honour your choices, provide non-judgemental support and walk alongside you in the way that feels right for you.

Through emotional reassurance, practical preparation, comfort measures and a calm presence during labour, I aim to create an environment where you feel safe, confident and empowered. I also support your partner in their role, helping them feel included and equipped to walk beside you.

For me, being a doula is about more than supporting a birth — it is about supporting a woman as she becomes a mother.

My hope is that when you look back on your birth journey, you remember not only the moment your baby arrived, but the way you felt along the way: supported, respected, empowered and held with love.

Whats In A Name?

The name Golden Hour holds a very special place in my heart for several reasons.

First, it honours my youngest daughter, Goldie. She embodies everything I hope my business represents—joy, warmth, light and unconditional love. Her pregnancy and first year brought unexpected health challenges, reminding me just how important compassionate support, informed advocacy and feeling truly cared for are during pregnancy, birth and beyond. Today, she is thriving, and her story is a daily reminder of hope, resilience and the beauty that can grow from difficult seasons.

The name also beautifully reflects both of my passions. In birth, the Golden Hour is the precious first hour after your baby is born—a sacred time for bonding, skin-to-skin contact and the beginning of your family's story. In photography, the golden hour is the soft, warm light just after sunrise or before sunset, creating timeless, beautiful images.

For me, Golden Hour represents new beginnings, gentle care, beautiful light and memories worth preserving. It is a name that reflects my heart—to ensure every family feels held with love and captured for a lifetime.

Honouring Your Journey Into Motherhood

Birth is your journey — your body, your baby and your story. My role as your doula is not to take over or tell you how your birth should unfold, but to offer guidance, reassurance and unwavering support throughout your experience.

Like a steady presence through an unfamiliar season, I am there to help you prepare, remind you of your strength and offer support when you need it most. I bring experience, tools and a calm presence, while always honouring that you are the one at the centre of your birth experience.

There may be moments that feel overwhelming, uncertain or challenging. In those moments, I am there to help you find your confidence again, offer comfort and remind you that you are not alone.

Your birth belongs to you. My role is to support, encourage and nurture you through the journey — creating a space where you feel informed, empowered and truly held with love.
