Birth Photography

Your birth story, beautifully remembered.

Birth is powerful, emotional and fleeting. While you focus on meeting your baby, I'll quietly capture the moments you may not see — the anticipation, strength, connection, first touch and first moments together.

My approach is natural and unobtrusive, allowing you to stay present while I preserve the story of your baby's arrival.

You live the moment. I'll capture the memories.

A Calm & Discrete Approach

Black and white photo of crying newborn baby held by medical team immediately after delivery.

Birth photography isn't about directing your birth or making you perform for the camera.

I'll work quietly in the background, allowing you to stay completely present with your baby, your partner and your birth team.

I'll capture the little details, the big emotions and everything in between, without interrupting the experience.

My focus is on:

✨ Your strength and emotion

✨ Your connection with your partner

✨ Your support team

✨ The atmosphere and details of the room

✨ The moments leading up to birth

✨ Meeting your baby for the first time

✨ Skin-to-skin and those first precious moments

✨ Your baby's first hours earthside

Your comfort, privacy and consent always come first.

The Journey

Before Your Birth

Once you're booked, we'll spend time getting to know you and talking about the birth you're hoping for.

We'll discuss:

✨ Your planned place of birth

✨ Your birth preferences

✨ What you'd particularly love captured

✨ Any moments or details you'd prefer not to be photographed

✨ Your birth team

✨ Hospital or birth-centre photography requirements

✨ When you'd like me to join you during labour

This gives me a clear understanding of what's important to you while still leaving room for your birth to unfold naturally.

When Labour Begins

I'll be on call for you from 37 weeks until your baby arrives.

When labour begins, we'll keep in contact and you'll let me know how things are progressing.

We'll decide together when it's the right time for me to make my way to you, based on your individual circumstances and planned birth location.

Once I arrive, I'll settle quietly into the space and allow you to remain focused on your labour.

I won't take over your birth space.

I'll simply be there, watching, waiting and capturing your story as it unfolds.

During Labour & Birth

I'll use a documentary-style approach, capturing your birth without constantly asking you to look at the camera or pose.

I'll photograph the moments you may not notice happening around you:

The squeeze of your partner's hand.

The support of your midwife.

The quiet moments between contractions.

The anticipation as birth gets closer.

The tears.

The laughter.

The strength.

The first moment you see your baby.

The story of your birth, exactly as it happened.

Your First Moments Together

After your baby arrives, I'll stay to document those beautiful first moments together.

Depending on your circumstances and package, this may include:

✨ First touch

✨ Skin-to-skin

✨ First feeds

✨ Your partner meeting baby

✨ Sibling introductions

✨ Baby's first checks

✨ Weighing and measuring

✨ Those quiet moments after birth

✨ Your first family photographs

These early hours can pass in a blur.

Your photographs give you the chance to slow them down and remember.

Collaboration & Respect

Working Alongside Your Birth Team

I work respectfully alongside your midwives, doctors, nurses and support people to help keep the environment calm and relaxed. With my background in doula support, I understand the flow of birth and know when to step forward and when to simply stay in the background and observe.

Your Birth, Your Boundaries

Before your birth, we'll talk about what matters most to you — the moments you want remembered, anything you'd prefer not to have photographed, and any personal boundaries or preferences you'd like me to know.

On the day, you set the boundaries. I'll follow your lead, respect your privacy and make sure your comfort and consent remain at the heart of every photograph I capture.

FAQ

When should I book my birth photographer?

As early as possible is best, particularly if you have a specific due date or birth location in mind.

Because birth photography requires me to be on call, I only take a limited number of birth clients at a time.

Do I have to be comfortable being photographed during labour?

Absolutely not.

Before your birth, we'll discuss your boundaries and what you're comfortable having photographed.

You are always in control.

Will you photograph intimate moments?

Only with your prior consent and within the boundaries we've discussed.

Your privacy and comfort are incredibly important to me.

Will you use flash?

I prefer to work with natural or available light wherever possible, allowing me to remain unobtrusive and preserve the atmosphere of your birth.

Can you photograph my home birth?

Yes. Home births can be incredibly beautiful to document, and I'll work quietly within your space.

Can you photograph hospital births?

Yes, provided your hospital and care team allow photography.

I'll recommend discussing photography with your hospital or care provider ahead of time, as policies can vary.

Can you photograph in theatre/cesarean??

This depends entirely on the hospital and medical team. In many circumstances, photographers are not permitted into theatre for a caesarean birth.

We'll discuss your preferences and create a plan beforehand.

What happens if you can't attend my birth?

Birth photography requires a reliable backup plan.

I work with trusted backup photographers who can step in if an unexpected circumstance means I'm unable to attend.

Any backup photographer would be provided with the information needed to document your birth as closely as possible to the Golden Hour style.

How long do you stay after birth?

I'll stay long enough to capture the important early moments included within your birth photography coverage, including those precious first interactions between you and your baby.

Where do you provide birth photography?

I primarily provide birth photography within my standard birth service area around 30km form Yangebup, including selected hospitals, birth centres and home births.

If your planned birth location is further away, please get in touch so I can confirm whether I'm able to provide reliable on-call coverage.

Can I book birth photography without doula support?

Absolutely.

Birth photography is available as a standalone service.

If you'd like both photography and doula support, you can also explore my combined packages.

How is the deposit?

To confirm your booking I require a signed contract and a 20% non-refundable deposit.

Whats your turn around time for images?

You will receive several sneak peek photos within 48 hours of your birth. You will have your final birth gallery within a maximum of 6 weeks, but my turn around time is usually closer to 2-3 weeks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yep! As long as the deposit is paid to secure booking and full payment is made by 35 weeks you can pay in as many interest free instalments as you like. In special circumstances you can even continue to make payments after your baby is born. Although you wont receive your images until full payment is received.

What if I go into labour in the middle of the night, on a weekend, or on a public holiday?

I will be there. No matter the day or time, once you have booked with me I have committed to being on call for you 24/7 in the weeks surrounding your estimated due date. Things like peak hour or holiday traffic may mean it takes me longer than expected to reach you, but I will get there no matter what!

When do you get to the birth and how long do you stay?

If you’re birthing in hospital I generally meet you there shortly after you arrive. If you’re having an induction you should phone me when it starts, and ask me to head in once you are in active labour. If you’re birthing at home I’ll arrive once you’re surges/contractions are well established and you’re in active labour. Its important I don’t arrive too early as this can cause disruption and slow or stall your labour, and may mean that by the time you are birthing I am not working at my best. I will generally stay for 1-2 hours after your birth to capture your magical golden hour. If you’d like newborn or family photos another day, these can be accessed at 10% off.
